I grew up on a farm where we always had cows, a couple for milk and one or two for beef.

In the 70’s my brother started a dairy herd. We milked Holsteins and I took my 4h-project heifer to the county fair. We got out of milking, which is when I started to dabble in the beef business. It started with a small herd of Hereford and some Hereford crosses. I chose the Herefords because I believe they are gentler than Angus.

Depending on your market the color of an animals coat seems to make a difference at sale time.  So I went that route and introduced Angus. This was the direction I took until last October, when I received my New Holland News, with the article about "Pinzgauers the unique cattle". That night I spent hours researching the breed.

Months of research and a trip to Tennessee is what has brought me to believe Pinzgauers are the breed of the future. When you see them for the first time, I think you will understand what I mean. They are the most gentle animals I have been around and they are awful pretty too.

The reason I am telling my story is because as I researched Pinzgauers, I was full of questions and was looking for guidance or what to do next. If you are feeling the same way get in contact with a Pinzgauer farmer. I think the easy nature of the breed is contagious and rubs off on the owners. If I can’t help you I will put you in contact with some one that can.

To get things started I artificially breed all my cows to Pinzgauer. These crosses will introduce our personal customers to the Pinzgauer breed.  Getting started with registered full blood lines I purchased 4 breeding age heifers. I hope to purchase a couple cow calf pairs in the near future to replace my current cows.

Well that’s my story, so if your in the area and would like to talk or take a look stop on by.
